What a year it’s been
Think Like a Vegan
The paperback dropped in January 2025 in the UK and worldwide and in North America in April. Not only does the book have a new chapter – more than an Afterword – with updated information and materials, it also has a new publisher: Wilton Square Books, who picked it up when the previous publisher went bust. So, keep the book in print by buying a copy or two, even if you already have the hardcover. There’s also an ebook and audiobook. And keep an eye on my socials for a special ebook promotion in January.
You can buy it from your favourite bookseller or on Amazon, Bookshop, Target or ask your library to carry it.
Talks & interviews
It’s been frenetic in the best way possible and you can find many of the recorded talks here with more to be added soon:
BBC Radio; Dr Sailesh Rao’s V-COP; The Animal Rights Show, All Creatures; Marx in the Anthropocene Conference; River Road Books; Vegan in NJ; Aurora Philosophy Institute; Grow Civic; PHAIR Animal Advocacy Conference; International Animal Rights Conference; Women in the Food Industry; American Vegan Society; Why Go Vegan; and Little Switch Yoga.
Writing
In addition to this Substack, the terrific magazine, Current Affairs, published my piece “Against Animal Farming” and Counterpunch published an extract from Think Like a Vegan, “If you believe in social justice, you believe in veganism”. I’m over the moon about both publications.
The Animal Studies Journal accepted, peer reviewed and will soon publish my piece on the political left and veganism. I’ve submitted a chapter for a book about ecosocialism and a chapter for a book about cultured meat, all coming out in 2026/2027.
I’ve been invited to contribute to a paper with a few very well known people in conservation including the ethologist Marc Bekoff. I’ll also be contributing to another book on rewilding and conservation. And again, all these will see the light of day in the next year or so.
Rewilding
Our rewilding project in the Highlands of Scotland has been keeping me very busy
I’ve hosted a variety of groups over the summer at Birchfield. If you’re ever in the Highlands, let me know and I’ll show you around.
Mountains & connections
I managed to climb Mt Kilimanjaro (5,895m/19,341ft) in Tanzania with an all vegan group led by my friend, inimitable comrade, animal advocate and vegan mountaineer, Kuntal Joisher, and the impeccable Sisi Trekking. Our group was small and indefatigable despite the challenges of the mountain. It was an incredible and joyful experience and we all made it to the top!

And lastly, the Internet can still be an incredible place of connection. I’ve had the immense pleasure of discovering and connecting with a cousin I didn’t know I had. And astonishingly, he’s been vegan for decades, taught animal rights law and was deeply involved in the animal rights movement in the US for decades side by side with people like Tom Reagan, Kim Stallwood and many more. Hi Jerry! I dedicate this post to you.
Finally, thank you for subscribing, following me on socials, commenting, sending messages, showing up to events. You’re all part of this journey, which wouldn’t exist without you.
I’m always delighted to hear from you, whether it’s a question about a recipe or food or about a vegan ethics problem you might be facing.
