I spent a few days in Berlin. The reason was for a @thinklikeavegan book event at the gorgeous @plantbaseberlin. Thank you Marika for being such a brilliant interlocutor and with Rob and Brooklyn also such a great host. And thank you to everyone who came. I loved every minute of it and I hope you all did too. There are a few signed copies of @thinklikeavegan at @plantbaseberlin. While you’re there, pick up a copy of Marika’s book, Vegan Curious. Also when Plant Base runs out of @thinklikeavegan copies, the St George English language bookshop can order more.

I also connected with friends! Splendid in person meeting of @marxforcats at @tianfuzius.berlin (which was delicious).

And reconnecting with friends I’d not seen since the before times… Ina of @cakewhatelse and we picked up right where we left off without skipping a beat. She makes the best raw cakes I’ve ever had. We had some mind blowing pizza at @alcatz_one made by @gemello_veganpizza - Neapolitan level good. I didn’t know what to expect with a smoked salmon, cream cheese, capers and onions pizza, but now I’m hooked. And that sausage and friarielli… yes please. Extra kudos for the play on words catzone and Napovegana 😂

Cocktails with @beastlynomes at @cafenullpunkt was stylish, fun and incredibly overdue. We want to burn it all down, but choose not to… to quote this queen.

Dinner with Justin @lotusartichoke was just lovely. The Sri Lankan meal was Delish and the company warm and it too so long overdue. Same with seeing @sweetseedling! So good and why didn’t we take a photo?!

The Neue Nationalgallerie is open again! One of my faves.

Thanks @insidertourberlin for the remarkable tour of Sachsenhausen Memorial. I cannot imagine what its inmates endured. Always 👊 a N*%i.

The floating Marx head in the digital diorama at the DDR museum was a highlight.

And I loved the little place where I stayed in Prenzlauer Berg. I could’ve done with less volume from the couple above me and their loud *seggs* two nights in a row but 🤷‍♀️

Oh and the buses have USB chargers… and everything was on time to the second!

So much gratitude.

Some highlights of vegan food in Naples and one da

Some highlights of vegan food in Naples and one day in Rome.

After years of following, I made it to @tobioveganshopnapoli for all the cheeses (especially all the Gondino and @fermaggio, which I both highly recommend), incredible @vegfather mortadella, @fermaggio prosciutto, and the locally made @meravoglia.veganierianapoletana bacon/pancetta. All these vegan meats are excellent. Plus a lovely visit with the splendid Ilaria.

Delicious pizza marinara from one of the historic pizzerie, @lombardi1892 and perfect friarielli and bread on the side because it would be rude not to. The 1892 is because they’ve been making pizzas since then!

And also after years of following them, I finally visited @rifugioromano just near the train station in Rome and it was everything I’d hoped it would be. @ajlogue and I feasted like queens. Somehow we made it to @grezzorawchocolate too for their splendid cakes.

Another must in Napoli is @cavoli_nostri. Exceptional stuffed peppers, with a modern take on a classic Neapolitan recipe. Perfect gnocchi with a sea-flavoured theme, rounded out with a dessert made with cauliflower. Yes. It was superb.

Visited @isabelladechampizzafritta once again and actually met the chef herself. She was absolutely delightful and so talented. The open-faced pizza fritta (a Neapolitan speciality) with genovese made with the locally produced @meravoglia meats is glorious. And they’ve got vegan desserts now too. It’s an absolute must when in Naples.

There’s plenty more places I didn’t manage to visit this time!! And next time I also want to take a vegan pastry class with the phenomenal @veganissimo_napoletano. Everything Valeria makes is off the charts and her Neapolitan classics are to die for. Plus she too is a remarkable and delightful person.

Vegan travel: possible and delicious. As always veganism is a joy, not a sacrifice.

I had an amazing time @vegfestuk this weekend. Thank you to everyone who came to my @thinklikeavegan and @birchfieldrewilding talks, bought a book, and stopped to chat. I loved seeing people in person I’d only ever connected with online. And this is the most selfies I’ve ever taken. Thanks Pete for that last shot!

So many outstanding moments. One particular standout: a woman walks by the table and exclaims, “My daughter read @thinklikeavegan and became vegan! And she’s a med student!” 🙌 Whoever you both are kudos and well done. And thank you for sharing that with me. It’s incredibly rewarding and satisfying.

A very special thanks to @benny_malone_ and Mandy. We shared a table on Saturday and it was great talking in person. We could’ve kept going for hours. Legit two of the loveliest people ever. Benny is a vegan übermensch.

I’m working on the Vegan Panettone Review but before I publish that today, I have to heap praise on a long-term superstar of the London vegan scene: @blackcathackney . It’s been in my top fave for going on a decade almost. Food is delicious, inventive, there a range of items on the menu from salads to this newcomer - the mushroom 🍄 sammie - and then look at that empanada. I mean…. And the legit mensches who run the place, @nachovsky81 and @carlotaxcasper just make it the full vegan package, including community involvement. The vibe is always buzzy and warm. Love the Black Cat. Thanks for all you do!
